Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam is managed by the Chettinad Group under the auspices of Gandhinagar Education Society. The Gandhinagar Education Society was founded in 1954. Responding to request by the members of the society to help educate the children of Gandhinagar and Raja Annamalaipuram, Padmabhooshan Dr. Rajah Sir M.A. Muthiah Chettiar, renowned for his philanthropic service to society, initiated the establishment of schools that have contributed to the betterment of a large number of less privileged families. From 1956 to the present time, several schools have been built and are functioning as charitable institutions supported by the Chettinad family.
At Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam, we follow the ICSE board (affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, CISCE). The curriculum trains the students to excel in practical applications. As the board is recognized by most of the schools and colleges around the world, it is highly recommended for students who have to move to different countries. The ICSE syllabus focuses on in-depth study of each subject with an edge over English.
The school believes that teaching learning is a continuous process of stimulating and unleashing the potential of each student to create new pathways and opportunities.
Harishree is designed to provide the best opportunities to our students. The school being the second home, the infrastructure is meticulously planned keeping in mind, ventilated classrooms, playgrounds, libraries, separate floors for the primary, middle and secondary sections, well-equipped laboratories that enable students to perform lab activities effectively.
We inculcate in our students the importance of working hard, of being consistent and perseverant, of being punctual and of making an effort to better oneself at the next available opportunity. We acknowledge their effort not only in academics but in all fields.
Our pursuit of bringing a paradigm shift from teaching to learning continues to set the school as future focused. Professional development programs help the teachers of our school to implement the latest trends in education. Our staff displays a constant desire for overall improvement and excellence in teaching-learning practices and classroom delivery. While we celebrate the success of our students, we also support students with special educational needs and help them achieve as per their abilities.
Montessori education at Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. The children are encouraged to learn at their own pace and make creative choices in their learning.
The Montessori classrooms include mixed ages and skill-levels. Peer learning is encouraged as the little ones learn from observing their older friends and the older children establish their knowledge and gain valuable leadership skills by giving lessons to the younger children.
The Montessori environment in school is child-directed. Teachers give children lessons on materials they are both familiar and unfamiliar with. They are given the freedom to choose where to sit and what to work on.
The Montessori focuses on educating the whole child, including their physical, spiritual, social, mental and emotional well-being. The students develop to be socially mature individuals who demonstrate the ability for prolonged concentration and exercise control over movement and impulses.
The language of instruction is predominantly English and enrichment of vocabulary is practised by listening to the phonetic sounds. Numbers are introduced and the child practically learns the concepts through concrete materials and slowly moves to the abstract.
Theme-based activities like group discussions, songs, drawing activity, art and craft, games, videos, show and tell and extra-curricular like yoga, Bhagavad Gita chanting, music and play time are a regular part of the classroom.
